Favorite Quote: “And so it happened that on a warm windy evening I drove over to East Egg to see two old friends whom I scarcely knew at all.”

Why I Chose It: When I read a particularly good book, I often think “man, I wish someone made me read this years ago!” But of course when you’re required to read something, it becomes much more difficult to enjoy it. Reversing that concept, sometimes rereading classics you were made to read for English class is a wonderful experience! I anticipated this to be the case with “The Great Gatsby”; it felt like a book that deserved a second chance, this time read voluntarily.

Other Notes: The plot is driven by two affairs. I don’t remember this from my initial reading. I read Gatsby as a sad character…really a façade motivated by a love that exists more in his head than in reality. I don’t remember this from my first reading. Life between high school and now has significantly changed my ability to understand the story.
