Favorite Quotes: (1) “How long is it since you read right through the Bible? Do you spend as much time with the Bible each day as you do even with the newspaper? What fools some us are! - and we remain fools all our lives, simply because we will not take the trouble to do what has to be done to receive the wisdom which is God’s free gift.” (2) “But if, now, he (in Whitefield’s phrase) puts thorns in your bed, it is only to awaken you from the sleep of spiritual death - and to make you rise up to seek his mercy.” (3) “…were I asked to focus the New Testament message in three words, my proposal would be ‘adoption through propitiation’, and I do not expect ever to meet a richer or more pregnant summary of the gospel than that.” (4) “Our heavenly Father intends his children to know his love for them, and their own security in his family. He would not be the perfect Father if he did not want this, and if he did not act to bring it about.” (5) “’Wait on the Lord’ is a constant refrain in the Psalms, and it is a necessary word, for God often keeps us waiting. He is not in such a hurry as we are, and it is not his way to give more light on the future than we need for action in the present, or to guide us more than one step at a time. When in doubt, do nothing, but continue to wait on God. When action is needed, light will come.”

Why I Chose It: Many people I know have heralded “Knowing God” as a classic, and a must read.

Other Notes: Packer is a clear communicator here, and this is a clear outline of who God is, and who we are in relation to Him. It is simultaneously basic and deep and clear and significant.
