SCENES | Greg Haney | Fall 2018
Here we are, an ocean away, but back with another Hamilton post! Gregory Haney is currently the dance captain swing of the London company of Hamilton. If you don’t know what “swing” means in this context, check out this article. TL;DR - swings are amazing, they have to know so many roles to be able to step in at a moment’s notice…and in a show like Hamilton, you can imagine all that entails! Gregory and I swung through the Victoria Palace Theatre before a two show day to take some pictures backstage, which is always something I look forward to! And of course, a huge thanks to the Backstage Blonde for the connection!
While I’m here, a couple thoughts on Hamilton in London - (1) the cast was amazing, it is always so fun to see the different talents in unique deployment across various companies! (2) as an American it was very…satisfying…to sit amongst a UK audience, especially during songs like, gee, I don’t know, “Yorktown”… (3) I think King George was especially hilarious here, (4) there are some lyric changes to reduce unnecessary confusion (like changing “Weehawken” to a simpler “New Jersey”). And of course, if you’re a Hamilton fan like me, check out my other shoots with Sabrina Sloan, Julia Harriman, and Isa Briones who play Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy Schuyler in the Angelica National Tour of Hamilton, as well as with Austin Scott (Alexander Hamilton) and Chaundre Hall-Broomfield (Mulligan / Madison).
